Artist Biography
Lyn Barnes (nee Scott) was born in Roma, SW Qld and grew up on
a cattle and grain property near Wallumbilla. Her family has owned
the property for 120 years. She was one of three children and was
educated at boarding school in Toowoomba. Lyn began her working
life as a governess and bookkeeper near Quilpie in far southwest
Queensland. She then returned to Roma and became a radio journalist
for 4ZR. Lyn worked in this field for six years. During that period
Lyn married her husband Jack and had two children William and Thomas.
The family then moved back to Quilpie and familiar surrounds in
1991 when Jack took a position with the Department of Natural Resources
and Mines. It was also that year Lyn began painting the landscapes
of the far southwest. Lyn’s artistic skills were fostered
by workshops with others artists through sponsorship by the Regional
Arts Development Fund.
